The U.S. defense Department knows nothing about the use of American F-15 phosphorous munitions in the Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor. This is the official representative of the defense Department Shawn Robertson told TASS.
“We have not received any messages about it,” he said and added that none of United States military units in the region are not equipped with phosphorus shells.
Earlier, the head of the Russian Center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria, Lieutenant-General Vladimir Savchenko said that two American F-15 applied with phosphorus munitions at settlement, Hagin, whereas they are prohibited by additional Protocol of the Geneva Convention of 1949. According to him, in the province broke out a large fire.
Now the Syrian army is on the offensive on the last major region in the country controlled by militants of the “Islamic state” — the province of Idlib. 4 Sep Russian aerospace forces conducted large-scale bombing.
Armed conflict in Syria began in 2011. It involves government forces, acting on the side of President Bashar al-Assad, moderate opposition and various Islamist groups. In recent months there are increasing reports about the truce and the surrender of weapons by militants.
