Ukraine does not intend to supply water to Crimea while the Peninsula belongs to Russia. This statement on Wednesday, September 12, the Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin, UNIAN reports.
According to him, Moscow is trying to exploit the situation with a release of chemicals in the Crimea with the aim of “promotion, including on the international arena, the issue of non-delivery of water in the occupied territory.” “But I can make this problem not from the point of view of international law, and wrapping it in a humanitarian wrapper. And this we must avoid,” — said Klimkin.
“To the occupied territory water contract, where it is written “Crimea, Russia” will not be delivered”, he added.
On 9 September the representative of the President of Ukraine in Crimea Borys Babin said that Ukraine will not allow the resumption of water supply to the Peninsula. “The population in this water does not need the water to companies who are in occupied territory, and they that water will not get. We have a clear position: no negotiations, no attempts at small steps to bring us under the power supply of this water will not. It is a state policy,” he said.
At the end of August in the Crimean Armyansk at the plant “Crimean Titan” was a release of chemicals. Cause of release was the lack of water plant shallow kislotostabilen, representing open water. This has led to the increase in the concentration of acids and fumes into the atmosphere. Before kislotostabilen was diluted with water coming through the North-Crimean channel, but after the reunification of the Crimea with Russia in 2014, Ukraine has blocked deliveries. The channel provides about 90 percent of needs of the Crimea in the water.
