The history of the Ukrainian Navy on Friday, September 14, opening its first assault boat from the “centaur”, has more than a thousand years. This was stated by Secretary of national security Council and defense (NSDC) of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov, reported on the website of the NSDC.

“Ukraine has a long Maritime tradition, the countdown of which begins with the campaign of Kiev Prince Oleg to Byzantium in 911, the year where he nailed in the sign of victory then at the gates of Constantinople his shield. That is to say that the history of the Ukrainian naval forces has more than a thousand years,” — said Turchynov during the ceremony of lowering boats into the water.

The boat, according to Turchynov, is able to move at a speed of 40 knots and can carry 36 Marines with standard weapons, sufficient to establish on the banks reference point. “The boat has powerful weapons: rocket launchers and two combat unit with heavy machine guns and grenade launchers, which due to the stabilization system can conduct aimed fire, not slowing down boat traffic, which significantly increases its combat potential, the safety and mobility of airborne forces”, — he added.

“Military technology, which comes in Navy boats, weapons and so on, allow you to carry out the decision of the NSDC of Ukraine about increasing our military presence in the Black and Azov seas and protect sea borders of Ukraine”, — said Turchinov.

September 9 in the media appeared information that the Ukrainian Navy began redeployment in the sea of Azov small armored artillery boats. Increase its presence in this sea area, Kiev announced in late August. The Ukrainian leadership fears the military-economic blockade by Russia.

On August 29 Ukraine said the development plan to reflect the “aggression” of Russia in the Azov sea. According to the former commander of the naval forces of Ukraine Vice-Admiral Sergei Haiduk, first of all, Kiev should develop likely scenarios of Russia’s actions. The second step, he said, should become “political, economic, informational and, in the end, the power “homework” in case of aggravation of the situation in any of the possible scenarios of Russia’s actions”.
