Russia joined the list of countries with the greatest number of deaths during a selfie. This became known from the study published in the journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care.
As the authors report, from October 2011 to November 2017, the world has killed 259 people who were trying to photograph themselves on the front camera. The absolute leader of the rating was India — during this period, 159 of the recorded accidents. Russia was in second place with 16 deaths to the self. In third place is the USA, where fatal photographing turned to 14 people.
It is noted that seven out of ten of the victims were men under 30 years of age, although women make selfies more often. Experts explain this phenomenon by the fact that young people are more prone to risk taking pictures, for example, on the edge of a cliff or on the roof of a skyscraper. The most frequent causes of death were the drowning, collision with a transport and drop.
Authors are urged to arrange places prohibited for a selfie, in all tourist areas, where there is a potential danger for visitors: around ponds, mountain tops and tall buildings.
In early September it was reported that a tourist fell off a cliff, doing a selfie in Yosemite national Park in California. In August it was reported that the bridge collapsed in China because of attempts by the tourist to take a picture of yourself.
