The President of Poland Andrzej Duda during a visit to Berlin urged to abandon the construction of the pipeline “Nord stream-2”, reports Deutsche Welle.

As stated by Duda, the emergence of a second gas pipeline running under the Baltic sea, will lead to the violation of the “energy balance” and ensure the dominant position of one supplier. As “Nord stream-2” may, in his opinion, make it difficult to supply to some Eastern European countries.

“We were surprised that the European Commission has not made a clearly negative evaluation [of the project “Northern stream – 2″],” said Duda. In his opinion, the European countries as an alternative to Russian gas, could just buy more liquefied natural gas from the United States.

In mid-October, the Russian authorities reported that allow for the possibility in the future, and the construction of new pipeline “Nord stream-3”. The new thread can run, if the demand for Russian gas in Europe will grow.

“Nord stream-2” is scheduled to be launched at the end of 2019. He will be able to transfer about 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year, the cost of the project is 10 billion Euro. The most irreconcilable opponent of the project were the United States, who actively oppose construction of the pipeline. The government has repeatedly threatened to impose sanctions against the project, including its European members. The Russian authorities said that the project will be in any case completed, despite possible sanctions.
