The President of Russia Vladimir Putin at a meeting with the assistant to the President for national security John Bolton stated that the parties must “seek common ground”, and recalled loving the symbol on the coat of arms of the United States. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
“As I recall, the coat of arms of the United States shows a bald eagle. On the one hand, he holds 13 arrows, and on the other hand an olive branch as a sign of peaceful policy, with 13 olives. Question: your Orlan all the olives already ate, left some arrows?” — said Putin.
Members of delegation met the Russian leader’s laughter. Putin noted that he would like to talk to Bolton, not only as the assistant of the American President, but also as a specialist in the field of disarmament and arms control.
Bolton expressed the hope that you will find the answers to your existing questions to Putin, but “an olive branch with them not brought.” “I thought so”, — Putin responded, after which the negotiators laughed again. “If you remember, the olive branch is located in the right paw of the eagle, so he demonstrates his priorities this way,” explained Bolton.
Putin also recalled that on the American coat of arms has the inscription “Unity in diversity”. “Therefore, despite the different approaches can and should look for common ground, I think so,” said the Russian leader. Bolton answered that it is the intention of the United States.
October 21, U.S. President Donald trump said that Washington would withdraw from the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate and shorter-range missiles (INF Treaty) which was signed in 1987. As stated by trump, Moscow violates the contract, and the United States “will develop weapons as long as Russia and China will not agree to a new deal”. The press-Secretary of Russian leader Dmitry Peskov said that the US withdrawal from the Treaty would harm global security and stability.
