EU high representative for foreign Affairs and security policy Federica Mogherini warned Russia and Ukraine from the military buildup in the black sea region and recalled that the Black sea is European. She stated, speaking in the European Parliament, reports “Interfax”.
“Let me remind you that the Black sea is a European sea, and we don’t want to witness another military gain in our immediate region,” she said.
The head of European diplomacy has also accused Russia of inspection of ships in the Azov sea and in the deployment of military vessels in the area. She recalled the agreement on the use of the Azov sea and the Kerch Strait, which involves the resolution of disputes through consultations and negotiations. “We will continue to ensure respect for international law and conventions, as well as to support Ukraine in these difficult circumstances”, concluded Mogherini.
In mid-October it was reported that the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko instructed to determine the Maritime boundary between Ukraine and Russia. The Council of national security and defense of the country pointed to Russia’s desire for total domination in the black sea region. On 18 October it became known that head the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Russia has denied Ukraine the right to hold joint NATO exercises in the sea of Azov.
Ukraine believes that Russia violate the rights of Kiev in the Black and Azov seas, and in this regard, is suing the Moscow. After completion of construction of Crimean bridge across the Kerch Strait between the two countries began to increase the tension in the sea of Azov. Ukraine fears that Russia will block her access to it. The border guards of both countries several times detained and arrested belong to each other court in the Azov area.
