The public chamber of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (YANAO) has made a list of names that can be perpetuated in the name of the airport of Novy Urengoy, within the framework of the project “Great names of Russia”, reports TASS.

Leaders of the rating were the names of the geologist Vasily podshebyakin and politician Victor Chernomyrdin. The long list also included a polar Explorer Andrei Vilkitsky, Soviet statesman Sabit Orujov, writer Leonid Laptsui, geologists Raul-Yuri Erve, Ivan Gubkin, and Farman Salmanov. “These are the people who have made a significant contribution to the development of Yamal in this or that sphere”, – noted in the Public chamber.

The Chairman of the Public chamber of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous district Yuri Kukevich told the Agency that the choice of Chernomyrdin is associated with its activity on a post of the Minister of gas industry of the USSR. “The discussion was not just active, it was biased hot. Inhabitants of Salekhard were definitely for podshibyakina, for oil home – Salmanov. I was surprised when I saw the full room for public discussion of the project”, he added.

According to Kukavica, Yamal several airports, including in Salekhard, Noyabrsk, Nadym, Tarko-sale, Krasnoselkup, but to participate in the project were chosen Novy Urengoy. This is due to the fact that the airport is now being reconstructed, and he is international and the largest in the region passenger numbers – almost a million people last year.

October 11 launched the project “Great names of Russia”, in which the names of 45 Russian airports has proposed to amend the names of the great musicians, artists, scientists, military and other prominent compatriots. While the existing names of the airports will remain, and the selected names will be additionally rated air gate of the country. A nationwide contest will end December 5, the day is planned to sum it up.
