Businessman Alexander Mamut became a knight of the French Order of arts and letters. About this ceremony the correspondent “Tapes.ru”.
The award was presented for significant contribution to the establishment of ties between Russia and France. The order was handed to the Ambassador of the French Republic in Russia Sylvie Berman, the award ceremony took place at her residence. To congratulate Alexander Mamut receiving such a significant award came from prominent Russian figures of art and culture, top management of large companies of the film industry, and also representatives of the political sphere.
“I am very happy to present this award to Alexander Leonidovich Mamut. So we want to celebrate his contribution to the development of Franco-Russian relations, in particular in the field of rental of French cinema. We appreciate the role of Alexander Leonidovich in the education of Mature youth, which opened the European culture,” said Berman.
The diplomat noted the contribution to the promotion of French cinema and literature, which made the “pioneer” cinema, United cinema chain “cinema Park Formula Kino” and publishing group “Azbuka-Atticus”.
In response Mamut thanked Berman and noted that, for the first time having been in France in 1993, I wanted to share my experience with the people of Russia. “This award was a surprise to me, but I am grateful. There are close to the ideal of a country where, in the foreground, the love of neighbor. In France the care of human life is given special attention. This is reflected in art, why we love French cinema and literature,” said Mamut.
The decision to award Mamut was made in July. “Sincerely congratulating you on this award, I want to acknowledge your significant contribution and personal involvement in support of culture” — have noted then in the letter from the Minister of culture of France Francois Nissen.
The order of arts and literature is one of the four major departmental awards of the French Republic. It was established in 1957, is awarded to “persons distinguished for their achievements in art or literary area or a contribution they made to the dissemination of art and literature in France and in the world. The decision to award is taken by the Minister of culture and communication of France, assisted by the order’s Council. The order consists of three degrees — in addition to the degree of knight, and given the extent of the officer and the commander. Previously, holders of the Order became Directors Anatoly Vasiliev and Yuri Norstein, writers Vasily Aksenov and Viktor Erofeev, conductor Valery Gergiev and others.
