Russia will provide Cuba a loan of more than $ 50 million for the purchase of Russian military equipment. On Saturday, October 27, reports “Kommersant” with reference to two sources in the sphere of military-technical cooperation (MTC).
According to interlocutors of the edition, the corresponding package of agreements will be signed in the framework of the 16th session of the intergovernmental Commission on trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation, which will take place on October 29-30 in Havana. “This amount will go directly to the PTS. In addition to this agreement will sign a number of economic documents and agreements by the Ministry of Finance, but they will have other means,” — said the source publication, familiar with the negotiations.
As told “Kommersant” one of the sources in the defence industry, given the amount, Cuba will be able to purchase armored vehicles and aircraft: presumably, the helicopters at the disposal of the Ministry of defense of Russia. “In addition, they will take spare parts, tools and accessories, as well as property for previously supplied equipment and maintenance, for example, T-62 BTR-60”, — said the interlocutor of the edition.
According to “Kommersant”, Havana also expects to procure industrial equipment under separate contracts on a commercial basis. As said a top Manager of one of the enterprises, in the framework of cooperation, in particular, can be implemented in the project on small arms.
The previous credit agreement in military-technical cooperation between Russia and Cuba was signed in 2009, later it was extended twice — in 2010 and 2011. In 2017 Havana sent an official request to Moscow asking for the modernization of standing in its Arsenal of equipment. The head of Rosoboronexport, Alexander Mikheev noted that in the near future, possibly by the conclusion of direct commercial contracts or the execution of works in the loan.
