Scientists Golfscope University (Canada) found out that the Earth is grown enough fruit and vegetables to provide healthy food for all people. About it reported in a press release on Phys.org.
The researchers compared the amount of healthy food recommended for power with the amount that is produced in agriculture, and found a significant discrepancy. It turned out that the food industry produces excessive amounts of grains, fats and sugars, but fruits, vegetables and protein products is not sufficient to meet the needs of the population.
According to the recommendations, the diet of every man must 50 percent consist of fruits and vegetables, 25 percent whole grains, and the last 25 percent protein, fats and dairy products. The researchers calculated how much agricultural land for all people on Earth and adjusted this figure for the estimated world population in 2050, equal to 9.8 billion people.
Scientists came to the conclusion that at the present time in human is 12 servings of grain instead of the recommended eight, five servings of fruits and vegetables instead of 15, three portions of butter and other fatty products instead of one and three servings of protein instead of five. According to the researchers, the change of production in accordance with dietary recommendations would reduce the required agricultural land area of 50 million hectares.
