German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that her current term in office will be the last. About it reports on Monday, October 29, the Associated Press, citing Agency DPA.
According to his sources, this statement Merkel made at a meeting with the Board of his party, the Christian democratic Union (CDU) to discuss the results of the elections in the Federal state of Hesse. AP notes that earlier the politician herself never confirmed the reports that I will post at the end of the current term in 2021.
Previously, on 29 October it was reported that Merkel said about the readiness to abandon the post of Chairman of the CDU and will not nominate his candidacy in the elections in December. At the same time, DPA was told that she would like to keep the post of Chancellor.
The CDU showed the lowest result in Hesse, though, and became the winner. In the elections, according to preliminary results, the party received 27.2 percent.
Partners in Merkel’s ruling coalition showed her an ultimatum after her party was defeated in regional elections. The social democratic party of Germany (SPD), a member of a coalition with the conservative CDU/CSU (Christian social Union) won the election in Hesse, 19.6 percent of the vote — the worst result since 1946. The leader of the SPD, Andrea Nales said that if in 2019, party will show the best result, then get out of the Association.
