Hungary does not seek to capture certain areas of the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine and will not fight for granting the region autonomy. The Minister of foreign Affairs of Hungary péter Szijjártó said in an interview with Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.
The foreign Minister asked whether in connection with the crisis in relations between Kiev and Budapest to fear that “one day in the protection of minorities, the Hungarian authorities decide to change the boundary”, and the Hungarian government will try to capture certain areas of Transcarpathia or will fight for giving the region Autonomous status.
“I always deny the charges, when we are accused of revisionism. It’s a stupid and false insinuations,” — said Siyyarto, stressing that Budapest does not adhere to the revanchist sentiments.
The Minister assured that the interests of Hungary is a strong and democratic Ukraine that respects its international obligations and the national minorities their resources. “We support Ukraine on many levels. We support Ukraine to become a strong state,” — said Siyyarto.
The current crisis in relations between Ukraine and Hungary provoked the incident with the alleged distribution of the Hungarian Consulate in Beregovo, Transcarpathian region of Ukrainian passports to citizens, although it was probably the other documents. After mutual accusations, the Ukrainian foreign Ministry sent a Consul out of the country. Budapest used the mirror measures.
