The Armenian Parliament unanimously adopted in the final reading the draft law on the Declaration of the Republic Amnesty, which will affect about 6.5 thousand people. On Thursday, November 1, reports the Agency “news-Armenia”.
The release of persons convicted for a period not exceeding three years, persons with conditional or suspended sentence and those whose sentence is not connected with the deprivation of liberty.
In addition, the document will affect serving sentences of persons with disabilities, pregnant women, parents with many children and persons over 60 and people who committed the crime until adulthood.
The provisions of the bill will not apply to those who were involved in the death of people, and will not be applied if the victims or successors will vote against.
In the Armenian Parliament an Amnesty called the largest ever announced in the country, reports “Interfax”. “This is a humanitarian act, is called to reconciliation and solidarity”, — said the acting Minister of justice of Armenia Artak Zeynalyan.
It is reported that the draft law will also affect members of the armed group of the “Sasna tsrer”, which in the summer of 2016 have seized a police station in Yerevan, and members of “Founding Parliament” convicted in April of 2015 for the preparation of mass protest actions.
The bill was passed in connection with the 100th anniversary of the first Republic of Armenia and the 2,800 th anniversary of Yerevan.
17 July 2016 members of the armed group of the “Sasna tsrer” captured the Yerevan police station, took hostages and demanded the resignation of the then President of the country Serzh Sargsyan. The attack killed a police Colonel. The operation for the liberation of the building was completed July 31. All members of the group surrendered to authorities.
In April 2015 members of the opposition movement “Founding Parliament” during public events in commemoration of Armenian genocide victims urged not to obey the authorities and to use violent methods of struggle. Security service of Armenia prevented a possible mass unrest. Members of the movement were arrested on charges of planning riots.
