The UN General Assembly for the 27th time adopted a resolution which urges the United States to end half a century of economic, commercial and financial embargo against Cuba. About it reports TASS.
The decision was supported by 189 countries, has traditionally voted against the US and Israel. Not adopted amendments to the document proposed by Washington. The resolution urged the country to take the necessary steps to abolish the “siege” of laws and measures in the shortest possible time, reports RIA Novosti.
The Agency also notes that the screen does not display the voice of Ukraine. At the same time, its representative a few minutes earlier had voted on the question of amending the resolution.
In June 2017 the US President Donald trump announced a partial abandonment of the policy of his predecessor Barack Obama against Cuba. It was, in particular, prohibiting business entities in the jurisdiction of the United States with the Cuban military agencies. At the same time he upheld many diplomatic achievements of Obama, including the work of the Embassy in Havana.
Obama and the head of Cuba Raul Castro in December 2014, announced the beginning of a gradual normalization of relations between the two countries. Was restored diplomatic ties, resumed regular commercial flights, weakened a number of anti-Cuban sanctions. However, imposed by U.S. authorities after the revolution of 1959 trade embargo is still in effect.
The US imposed blockade against Havana in 1960 after the revolution to power in Cuba came the rebels led by Fidel Castro. In Washington felt that the new government is authoritarian, and on the island are limited to basic freedoms and human rights, repression of political opponents of the regime.
