The Ukrainian official and activist Katherine Gandzyuk that summer poured sulfuric acid, died in the hospital. This was reported on the Facebook page maintained by friends of the woman.
“Kate died. Details will come later. Please do not disturb the family. Friends during the day will provide more information”, — says the publication.
The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko demanded to find those responsible for the death of Gandzyuk, “Interfax-Ukraine”. “Just what I said that the activist Katerina Gandzyuk, against which the attack was made non-humans, which she doused with acid, she, unfortunately, died in the hospital,” said Poroshenko, who is visiting Turkey. He also urged security forces to find the killers that they were punished.
Gandzyuk poured sulfuric acid on the morning of July 31 near her home in Kherson. The woman was taken to a local hospital with burns, then transferred to the Kiev clinic. First criminal case opened under article “Hooliganism”, and then retrained on “Attempt at murder with special cruelty”.
19 October, first Deputy head of the National police of Ukraine Vyacheslav Abroskin reported that on suspicion in attack on Gandzyuk detained five people. Two in custody, three under house arrest. The investigators believe that the attack is connected with the work or political activities Gandzyuk. In mid-September, the Prosecutor General Yuri Lutsenko said that the organizer of the attempt ready to testify.
Katerina Gandzyuk worked as a counselor of the mayor of Kherson, acting Manager of the Executive Committee of the Kherson city Council. In 2003-2015 was an activist of the party “Batkivshchyna”. Participated in the orange revolution and Euromaidan. Engaged in anti-corruption investigations, criticized the police and government officials, as well as “Pro-Russian forces” in Kherson region.
