Russia plans to create on the lunar surface visited a long-term basis. The study of Earth’s satellite will be conducted by robots, avatars, told RIA Novosti the head of the Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin.
“We are talking about creating a long-term base, of course, is not inhabited and visited. But mostly it’s transition to robotic systems, avatars that will solve the problems on the lunar surface,” — said General Director of state Corporation.
This task, said the head of “Roscosmos”, is larger and more responsible in comparison with the problems that have decided the United States during the Apollo program.
Rogozin did not specify how much time can pass since the beginning of manned flight to the moon (the first landing of the Russian cosmonaut is scheduled for 2030) to create a full base.
In September Rogozin said that Russia will not participate in the international project of the lunar Gateway station on the sidelines. He added that a lunar station could be created in conjunction with the BRICS countries.
In the same month, cosmonaut Oleg Kotov told TASS that at the present time the Russian crew on the ISS consists of two, not three, as earlier, due to the lack of funds for the launch of the cargo spacecraft “Progress”.
In April, RIA Novosti reported with reference to anonymous source in the rocket and space industry reported that the US and partners insist on Russia’s use of U.S. technical standards when creating a custom gateway module for Gateway which should be the main contribution of Russia to the project. At the same interviewee expressed the view that Western countries would like to exclude Russia from the project due to delays in technological cycles of manufacturing space technology.
In the same month, rocket and space Corporation Energia proposed to create a gateway module for Gateway due to the US or the EU as a Federal space program until 2025 funds for the establishment airlock module for the international lunar station is not provided.
In April 2014, Rogozin, occupying the post of Deputy Prime Minister, called the colonization of the moon a strategic challenge.
