More than a hundred citizens of Kazan gathered for a rally in honor of the 26th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Tatarstan (RT). About it reports the edition “Idel. Realities”.
The participants made a proposal to “return to the Constitution of 1992” as, in their opinion, in the current edition of the document there is no “fundamental articles.”
Also, the locals drew the attention of the authorities to the problem of state languages in the Republic and demanded the return of the Tatar language as a compulsory school subject.
According to the protesters, in 2000-2005 occurred in Tatarstan “the quiet coup”, in which the basic law of the Republic was amended, which destroyed the concept of nationhood, land and property.
Local residents noted that on the anniversary of the adoption of the basic law publicly remembered no politician, and no mention of it in the media. In addition, the congratulation of the head of the Republic Rustam Minnikhanov is 26-anniversary of the Constitution it was stated 25 years.
President Minnikhanov, in his address stated it is very important the fact that now the main provisions of the regional Constitution “in tune with the spirit and letter of the Constitution”, reports “Kommersant”.
The publication stressed that the Republic’s authorities banned a rally in the city centre, and also refused from mass festivals and any formal events on the occasion of Constitution Day.
In the fall of 2017 in Tatarstan the language broke the scandal after the Parliament of the Republic took the decision to remove the Tatar language from the list of compulsory school subjects. According to the regional laws, the Tatar language in the Republic is a state on a par with Russian, but to study it in school, children can voluntarily within two hours a week.
Amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Tatarstan at the request of the Prosecutor General of Russia was introduced in 1994 after the signing of the contract on differentiation of powers between public authorities of Russia and Tatarstan. Also, the document was amended in the early 2000-ies.
The result from the text of the law was withdrawn the article “the Republic of Tatarstan is a sovereign democratic state,” “Land, its mineral resources are public property,” “Laws have supremacy on its entire territory”, which was originally introduced in the text of the document at its adoption in 1992.
November 6, 1992 the Supreme Council of Tatarstan adopted a Constitution after the referendum on the state status of the Republic.
