The Russian carrier rocket “Soyuz-ST” with the European meteorological satellite Metop-C was successfully launched from the spaceport at the Guiana space centre (GSC). About it reports “Interfax”.

The start made in the night of Wednesday at 03:48 Moscow time. Exactly an hour later, the satellite separated from the rocket and went into orbit. “The spacecraft MetOp-C under control. Rocket and Fregat worked according to plan,” — wrote the head of the Russian space Agency, Dmitry Rogozin in his Twitter.

“Soyuz-ST” — Russian disposable rocket. Can display various spacecraft to a wide range of earth orbit and on interplanetary trajectories. Created by Samara space Rocket centre “Progress” to ensure commercial launches of GCC in the framework of the joint Russian-European project “Soyuz in Kourou”.

In June it was reported that Europe by 2023 permit waiver from the commercial launches of Russian carrier rocket “Soyuz-ST” from the Equatorial Kourou in favor of developing its own rocket Ariane 6 in the version with two side boosters. Its launch is scheduled for July 16, 2020.
