The Verkhovna Rada in the first reading passed a bill that would allow Ukraine twice to expand the territory of their offshore holdings. About it reports “Interfax”.
For the bill voted 238 deputies. “This bill will allow de facto two times to increase the area of control in the Black sea. The surrounding area, according to international standards, is neither a jurisdictional area or area of sovereignty. However, this area is the area of marine space, where any coastal state can exercise limited control for the prevention or apprehension for (violation — if) certain rules,” explained one of the authors of the bill, the member of the faction “Block of Petro Poroshenko” Irina Friz.
Friz said that the spread of the zone of influence will occur only in the Black sea, however, the draft law available on the website of the Verkhovna Rada, not specified, water what sea it spreads.
In the case of the bill and its entry into force, the adjacent area of Ukraine will be in the sea area adjacent to the territorial sea of the country and the external boundary of which is at a distance of 24 nautical miles (they count from the same initial lines, as the territorial sea). Ukraine’s territorial waters are 12 miles.
On the territory of Ukraine plans to exercise control and jurisdiction over the prevention of violations of customs, fiscal, immigration and sanitary regulations, and for penalties for violation of these rules. Ukrainian border guards will have the right to stop, inspect, detain and arrest court and crewmen, if there is reason to believe that the ship may violate Ukrainian legislation.
Ukraine is not the first time offers the legal changes in the Black sea. At the end of October this year, the Minister of infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan hoped that the European Union and the United States will impose sanctions against the Russian black sea ports.
