Court of Komi has sentenced 20 members of the Vorkuta criminal organization IPY-Kozlova who was engaged in killings, banditry, extortion, assassination, fraud, intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm, illicit arms trafficking and hostage-taking. The court sentenced the gang’s leader Yuri Kozlov and active participant Denis Ermakova to life imprisonment. Other defendants appointed from 7 to 25 years in strict regime colony. The four gang members, including one of its leaders Oleh IFA, are in the international search in respect of them in absentia preventive measure in the form of detention.
As found by the court, since the beginning of the 1990s, the bandits committed 12 murders and attempted murders, was twice taken hostage. They dealt with members of other organized crime groups and with members of his gang, who, in the opinion of the criminal authorities, deserved punishment.
So, in April 1999, on the instructions of the leader of the group Yuri Kozlov, who was in prison, was murdered businessman Anatoly Kharuk and seriously wounded his guard. The members of the criminal group dressed in the form of employees of internal Affairs bodies and shot their victims with pistols when they played football at the sports complex. Kharuk died on the spot, but his bodyguard received serious injuries, survived.
In January 2002, the bandits attacked the businessman Alexander Aghajanian, a key rival gang business, and its assistant Vadim Shishov. Two members of the gang IPY-Kozlov assembled improvised explosive device and placed in a car parked near the building of the sports complex. The device detonated when the victims left the building; both sustained fatal injuries. In addition, have suffered serious harm near two men and one woman.
In November 2004 the gang members strangled the brother of Azat Shagivaliev leader of a rival criminal gang. Six months later, they killed a member of the same group of Vladimir Alexandrov. Several murders had been committed on the sixth floor of the Central house of the life of the city of Vorkuta, in the main place of gathering of participants of the criminal organization IPY-Kozlov.
“Financing of the group were carried out at the expense of proceeds of racketeering, prostitution, firearms, explosives and explosive devices. Millions of rubles were received to the Treasury of the group from fraud with shares and resale of property arrested by bailiffs service and bought at understated price. Money laundering was carried out through trade organizations, entertainment venues, hotels and pharmacies”, — stated in the message of Investigatory Committee.
Gang IPY-Kozlov was established in the early 1990-ies on the territory of Vorkuta, it consisted of former law enforcement officers, athletes, combatants and other residents of the city. The origins of the community were vorkutinsky Vladimir IFA and Yuri Kozlov. In 1997, after the death of Vladimir became the leader of his brother Oleg IFA.
