Finland has suspected Russia of interference with the GPS signal during NATO exercise Trident Juncture 2018. It is reported Yle.
Air navigation service warned on violations in operation of devices of GPS-navigation in the North of the country. The interference was recorded on 6 November and lasted about a day.
According to the service representative, the warning was made on the basis of information received from the Ministry of defence of the country. “Several sources told us that the GPS device in the North and North-East of Finland can show false data. We wanted to convey this information to the airlines and other air for reasons of security,” he said.
In the military information refused to comment.
2 Nov portal the Barents Observer reported about the problems in the operation of the GPS device in the North of the country. Warning about possible interference in the GPS signal is also produced at the end of October, when Norway began NATO exercises Trident Juncture 2018. Finland participated in the maneuvers, which ended on 7 November.
On 1 November it was reported that the British fighters rose into the air over Scotland because of Russian bombers flying nearby.
Exercise Trident Juncture 2018 (the”Single Trident-2018″) took place in Norway from 25 October to 7 November. They in total have taken part about 50 thousand soldiers, 250 aircraft and 65 ships and 10 thousand units of military equipment from 31 countries — member States of the Alliance, and their partners in Sweden and Finland. This is the most large-scale maneuvers on the Northern flank of NATO after the cold war.
