In the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) said that the General staff of the Armed forces of Ukraine illegally removes priests from military service in military units. A statement published on the website of the UOC.
Deputy Chairman of the Department of the UOC for relations with the military formations of Ukraine, Archimandrite Luke (Wynarczyk) argues that the General staff ordered not to allow the chaplains of the UOC-MP in all military units of the country in spring 2018. The Directive is distributed under a signature stamp “DSP” (for official use).
“Our priests, who are listed, ordered not to allow to the personnel. You know, the leadership of the APU, the SBU and just cover up illegal actions against chaplains of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church marked “For official use only.” Our rights and the rights of our congregation limit, guided by the unfounded accusations and slander, and do not give the opportunity to refute it,” says father Luke.
The priest said that in October the Church in military unit A-0222 a separate regiment of the President of Ukraine passed the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the non-canonical Kyiv Patriarchate (UOC-KP). Archimandrite Luke for over ten years was rector of this Church and with the religious community of the UOC-MP has restored it to the landfill site. He believes that the temple was transferred illegally and contrary to the opinion of the military.
According to him, the similar situation develops and in other regions of Ukraine. So, in August of this year I closed the Church at the military Academy in Odessa, where he served as the chaplain of the UOC. Archimandrite Luke believes that a consequence of state policies of discrimination of believers and priests of the UOC in the country.
In early October, the Ecumenical Patriarchate proceeded with the granting of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine and removed the anathema from the heads of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyiv Patriarchate and the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. In this regard, the Russian Orthodox Church on 15 October broke Eucharistic communion with the Ecumenical Patriarchate, October 20, declared the Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew a schismatic according to Church canons.
