Zaur Kurbanov, the co-author of the book about the champion of the ultimate fighting championship (UFC) lightweight Habib Nurmagomedov told about the call of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, the Russian athlete after the victory over the Irishman Conor McGregor. His words are quoted by Sport24.
“Lee tells in the book about Putin’s call? Of course. Because he watched the fight. Mr Putin said: “We were worried about you, watching the fight, proud of you, do not give in to provocations. This is the number that you can call in any situation, if something goes wrong. Keep your head up. It is with great pleasure await you at my table”,” shared details of the conversation Kurbanov.
According to the writer, Putin supported Nurmagomedov after the scandal in the octagon. “It was not just the President’s support, it was the words of a man who says, if anything, we are here too”, he added.
10 Oct Nurmagomedov met with the President of Russia. The head of state congratulated the fighter with a victory over McGregor.
His title defended Dagestan in the night of 7 October at UFC 229. After the victory he climbed out of the octagon and attacked a sparring partner, rival Dillon Denis. The result was a brawl involving athletes, coaches and the police. Currently Nurmagomedov and McGregor suspended.
