The construction of a new North-tunnel on the Baikal-Amur mainline (BAM) will cost 260,79 billion. According to “Kommersant”, such calculations are in the analysis of the project performed by the Institute of Economics and transport development (IERT).
The analysis was performed by order of JSC “RZD”. Assessment IRT, the cost of tunnel construction is about 190 billion rubles without VAT. The amount of 260,79 billion was given deflators and producer price indices until 2024.
In the summer, sources have estimated the project cost at 100 billion rubles. It is noted that it is the only major project at BAM, who managed to attract the private investor. At the end of August “Siberian anthracite” has informed the Railways about its readiness to participate in construction.
The tunnel is one of the bottlenecks in the BAM. Its capacity is 16 train pairs a day, or 16 million tons. In connection with the growth of freight traffic to the East in August, the question was raised of building a new North-tunnel. Work can take at least 10 years. It is expected that the tunnel will pass from the calculation of the additional 34 pairs of trains per day.
The construction of the tunnel was the most efficient option for increasing the throughput of the highway. Investments in the expansion of freight traffic on the section of the BAM the Tayshet — Komsomol’sk will be 950,2 billion rubles, on the TRANS-Siberian — 1103,1 billion.
BAM is one of the largest railroads in the world. Passes through the territory of Irkutsk, Chita, Amur regions, Buryatia and Yakutia, the Khabarovsk Krai. The resolution “About construction of Baikal-Amur railway” was published in 1932. In 1989 signed the act of acceptance of commissioning of the last stretch, and BAM.
