Poroshenko announced the terms of martial law

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree on introduction of martial law in the country to 25 January 2019. Document published on the website of the President Monday, November 26.

“To put into effect the decision of the Council of national security and defense [national security Council] of Ukraine of November 26, 2018 “On emergency measures for ensuring the state sovereignty and independence of Ukraine and the introduction of martial law in Ukraine””, — stated in the decree.

The decree must still be approved in Parliament.

According to the Constitution, a proposal to enact martial law puts national security Council. Then it must support the President of the country, issuing a special decree. After that, the document submitted to a vote in Parliament of Ukraine. If the decree is approved, it shall enter into force upon its official publication in mass media.

Previously Poroshenko said that the military situation in the country will not lead to compulsory mobilization of the population.

The decree of the President of Ukraine is connected with the incident in the Kerch Strait. November 25, the border Department of the FSB detained three ships the country’s Navy, which entered the territorial waters of the Crimea and began to make dangerous maneuvers, ignoring the requirement to stop.

In Russia opened a criminal case on illegal crossing of the state border. The Ministry of foreign Affairs called actions of the Ukrainian military provocation, the purpose of which is to distract the population from domestic problems in light of the presidential elections scheduled for the spring. Moscow considers EU and US involved in the incident.
