“Russia for its actions confirmed the futility of bilateral agreements concerning the Kerch Strait and the Azov sea. We understand that Russia did not and does not intend to follow them,” — said the Minister.

Klimkin said that on November 26 will be an extraordinary meeting of the UN Security Council. According to him, Ukraine will seek a peaceful settlement of the dispute, as provided for in article 33 of the Charter of the organization (“duty of the parties to the dispute”, which obliges parties to the dispute, attempt to resolve it through negotiations), but, of course, reserves the possibility of applying the right to self-defense as defined by article 51 of the UN Charter (“the Right to individual or collective self-defence”).

The Minister also considers it very important that the “whole civilized world” had adopted measures against Russia.”

“I want to emphasize that, in accordance with international law the status of captured crews should be dealt with in accordance with the Geneva Convention [on the protection of civilian persons in time of war of 1949. Therefore, our sailors are prisoners of war”, — quotes the words of head the Ministry of foreign Affairs “Ukrainian truth”.
