A former lawyer for the American leader Donald trump Michael Cohen has lied to the court admitting to a lie. The head of state said to journalists on Thursday, 29 November, reports Reuters.
“Michael Cohen is lying and trying to get a shorter term for things that have nothing to do with me,” said trump. He called his former lawyer “weak and not too smart person”.
According to the head of the state, no deal with the Russian business was not, he personally refused to implement the project for the construction in Moscow of the tower the Trump Tower. “It was a project that was not implemented for many reasons… I was focused on the presidential campaign. I wanted to primarily focus on this”, — said the American leader.
Earlier on November 29 Cohen suddenly appeared in court in new York and confessed. He said that in 2017, lied to the Senate select Committee on intelligence on the relationship of the tramp with Russia during his presidential campaign. In particular, he had previously stated that work on the Trump Tower project was completed in January 2016, while in fact it continued until June of that year.
Cohen also said that actually communicated with a Republican on this issue much more extensively than described earlier. In addition, he admitted that he had planned a trip to Russia, though it never took place.
In August, the lawyer admitted that trump has instructed him to commit the crime, paying two women to influence the course of elections. The Associated Press linked the evidence with the indictment of Republican former porn actress Stephanie Clifford (Stormy Daniels) and the former centerfolds of Playboy magazine Karen MacDougal. It is they, presumably, paid for the confidentiality of relations with the head of state.
Then Cohen pleaded guilty to eight counts against trump, including tax evasion. The lawyer was released on bail in 500 thousand dollars. He faces up to five years in prison. He went for a plea bargain, admitting guilt in exchange for possible leniency.
