Data 500 million hotel guests around the world leaked by hackers

Hackers hacked into the reservation system of the Marriott and got access to the personal information of more than 500 million hotel guests. The representatives of the organization told CNN.

The data sets contain the names of the visitors to the hotels, their passport numbers, contacts (phone numbers and email addresses) and information about the trip. Part of the accounts includes a detailed payment data.

Marriott representatives said that hackers were able to break the credit card. “We didn’t have what our guests deserve and what we expect from ourselves. We do everything we can to support them,” said CEO Arne Sorenson (Arne Sorenson).

The hacking was aimed at the base of the Starwood reservation, which the group acquired Marriott in 2016. Because of this incident, the shares of international companies fell by 6 per cent. Marriott is only 5.7 thousand properties in more than 110 countries.

The hotel chain had reported the attack to law enforcement. Affected guests will be notified about the incident via e-mail. They will set up a special informational website.
