The largest cognac producers asked the Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev to raise the minimum price of their products by 30 percent, writes RBC with reference to the letter “Southkorea”.
According to the calculations of producers, the fair price of half-liter bottles of brandy must be equal to 493 rubles instead of the current 371. Market participants insist that cognac is a premium alcoholic beverage high quality, buy it for use on special occasions, which means that it can not be cheap.
The members of the “Southkorea” (it includes the seven largest manufacturers) support of the Ministry of Finance plans to increase minimum prices on spirits (above 28 degrees), but consider it insufficient. Currently the minimum retail price, the office proposes to increase to 388 rubles, or 4.5 percent.
The interviewed market participants believe that due to the rise in prices will manage to oust the manufacturers of counterfeit products. They recognize that reliable way to determine the quality currently exists and does not explain how it will affect the fight against counterfeiting.
