The court in Tbilisi chose a measure of restraint in form of arrest six Ukrainian citizens and one citizen of Georgia, on the night of December 2, were detained on suspicion of illegal possession of weapons. About this in his Facebook said the Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the former commander of the volunteer battalion “Donbass” semen Semenchenko.
As notes RIA Novosti news Agency, lawyers of the detainees made a petition to release the defendants on bail, but the court demand they refused to satisfy. The judge, as noted “Interfax”, agreed with the arguments of the prosecution that if released on bail the suspects may try to escape, and commit a new crime or attempt to interfere with the investigation in search of evidence.
“Echo of the Caucasus” stressed that those arrested pleaded not guilty (they had previously indicated that they came to Georgia as tourists), and instead of a signature on the indictment, they wrote a phrase “Glory to Ukraine”. One of their lawyers, George Rostomashvili reported that men went on hunger strike. “So they protest everything that happens to them”, — quotes its RIA Novosti.
The Minister of internal Affairs of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia said that those arrested may be associated with the opposition party “United national movement”, led by ex-President Mikhail Saakashvili. “Based on the very sensitive topics we have held presidential elections, of course, such suspicions are. And they are confirmed by statements made by them during interrogation, as well as their visits to various actions in Tbilisi, but this is only suspicion. There is a consequence. As a fact, we have seized weapons from the detainees, the group arrived in Tbilisi”, — quotes Gajaria “Interfax”.
On the night of 2 December, the Ministry of internal Affairs of Georgia have detained in Tbilisi and six Ukrainians and one citizen of Georgia, in whose rooms were found the pistol “Makarov” and “Beretta” homemade automatic firearm and ammunition. 3 Dec Semenchenko called the names of the detainees — Dmitriy Kuragin, Roland Melia, Alexander Novikov, Yury korostylev, Igor Orlenko Sergey Kladko and Luca Chetia. According to him, some of them are soldiers of the battalion “Donbass” taking part in the armed conflict in the East of Ukraine (in turn, the Georgian media, including “Echo of the Caucasus”, indicate that soldiers of the battalion are all seven).
