Russia does not intend to abandon the gas transit through Ukrainian territory even after starting the “Nord stream-2”. This was reported by press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, transfers “Interfax”.
“This position was repeatedly voiced by President Putin, he said that, in fact, the question of the termination of transit through Ukraine with the entry into operation of the “Nord stream-2″ is not”, — said Peskov, noting that the final decision will depend on the Ukrainian side. The abolition of the transit is not specifically considered.
Responding to a question about concerns of German Chancellor Angela Merkel regarding the preservation of the Ukrainian transit, Peskov said that the transit can be saved, what has been said by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. In response to the words of Peskov, the journalists tried to clarify the modality of words of Putin. The fact that the German Chancellor demanded that “transit needs to be saved,” while the Russian leader noted that he “may be saved”.
“I was talking about the position that was stated by President Putin. We have the modality of the one: this is the position of Putin. I can’t speak for the Chancellor,” — said Peskov.
The Ukrainian side believes that the implementation of the project “Northern stream-2” in fact, would deprive Ukraine of transit of Russian gas, which dramatically hit in income from the gas industry. In addition to Ukraine against the “Nord stream-2” is another transit country — Poland, which sees Russian threat. Germany in the “Nord stream-2” sees the threat, but the political establishment insists on maintenance of transit of gas on territory of Ukraine.
