Russia will be able to participate in the creation of an international lunar station Gateway not before 2026, RIA Novosti reported.
“Participation in the establishment and operation of the international lunar station when making decisions about the implementation of the international project and the participation in it of Russia”, — is spoken on the tasks of the Russian lunar program in the period from 2026 through 2030 in the draft decision of Roskosmos and Russian Academy of Sciences.
Talks on creation of a lunar station started in 2013. In September 2017 the United States and Russia signed the agreement on intentions on creation of a lunar station Gateway. The construction of the plant is scheduled for 2022, the accession of the Russian airlock module to it — by 2024.
In September the General Director “Rosatom” Dmitry Rogozin stated that Russia will not participate in the Gateway project on the sidelines. He added that a lunar station could be created in conjunction with the allies of Russia in the BRICS. At the same time, NASA recognized that a leading role in the Gateway belongs to the United States.
In the same month, cosmonaut Oleg Kotov told TASS that at the present time the Russian crew on the ISS consists of two, not three, as earlier, due to the lack of funds for the launch of the cargo spacecraft “Progress”.
In April, RIA Novosti reported with reference to anonymous source in the rocket and space industry reported that the US and partners insist on Russia’s use of U.S. technical standards when creating a custom gateway module for Gateway which should be the main contribution of Russia to the project. At the same interviewee expressed the view that Western countries would like to exclude Russia from the project due to delays in technological cycles of manufacturing space technology.
In the same month, rocket and space Corporation Energia proposed to create a gateway module for Gateway due to the US or the EU as a Federal space program until 2025 means is not provided.
In April 2014, Rogozin, occupying the post of Deputy Prime Minister, called the colonization of the moon a strategic challenge.
