Russia will have to protect systems and missile defense, all places and objects that can become military objectives for the United States in the case of withdrawal from the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate and shorter-range missiles (INF Treaty). On Wednesday, December 5, TASS said the Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on defense and security Viktor Bondarev.
“If the agreement is denounced by the Americans, we will have to put combat “covering” at all sensitive places that may become a potential target America,” he explained.
The Senator added that this will inevitably also apply to Europe and China.
December 4, U.S. Secretary of state Mike Pompeo said that Washington will come from the INF Treaty if Russia will not return to its execution within 60 days. He promised that during this period the United States will not produce, test and place prohibited by the Treaty of weapons, “then we’ll see what happens.” The official representative of the foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said that Moscow respects the agreement.
October 20 the President of the United States Donald trump announced his country’s exit from the INF Treaty. According to him, Washington was forced to take such a step, as Moscow violates this agreement. The American leader added that allows for the conclusion of new deals with Russia and China.
The INF Treaty does not allow parties to have ballistic missiles, land-based and cruise missiles with ranges between 500 and 5.5 thousand kilometers. The document was signed in 1987, the General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee Mikhail Gorbachev and U.S. President Ronald Reagan. Moscow and Washington have regularly accused each other of violating its terms.
