The MPs appealed to President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko with a proposal to assign posthumously to Stepan Bandera the title of Hero of Ukraine. Relevant document published on the website of the Parliament of the country.
“The adoption of the proposed project will honor the memory of Stepan Bandera, would contribute to restoration of historical truth about the struggle for Ukrainian independence in the twentieth century, the consolidation of the Ukrainian nation, strengthening Patriotic education”, — stated in the explanatory Memorandum.

In January 2010, the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko issued a decree that awarded Bandera the title of Hero of Ukraine. Three months later the court of Donetsk deprived of his state awards, as he was not a citizen of Ukraine.
