Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev answered a question about whether the country’s money for an economic breakthrough. Presenter of NTV channel Irada Zeynalova during an interview with the head of the government of the Russian TV channels asked about the means for economic growth. The live broadcast of the interview was led by the NTV channel.

Zeynalov reminded the Prime Minister that the President of Russia Vladimir Putin has set the task to make an economic breakthrough, the cost of which will cost eight billion rubles. “Dmitry Anatolyevich, and the money you found? Found Lee, where have you looked?” asked Zeynalov.

“Money, of course, found”, said Medvedev, noting that such a large amount needed to accumulate for the execution of national development goals emerging from the decree of the President. According to Medvedev, claimed eight trillion is not all that government spending because the government must conduct a regular business, and the funds necessary for the implementation of specific projects.

“Until 2024, if we look again at the costs that are associated with the operation, development and modernization of infrastructure and the amounts spent on a number of social programmes, together with those costs that we expect to incur as a result of accumulation of extra-budgetary sources will amount to 23 trillion rubles. These are huge numbers,” — said Medvedev.

Of this amount, according to Prime Minister, 22 trillion connected with the fulfillment of social obligations — the development of education and health. He also noted that this amount includes not only the cost of the state budget and private funds. However, Medvedev admitted that for more revenues in the budget the government had to raise the value added tax (VAT) to adjust the excise policy, as well as “intelligently reallocate resources”.

In may 2016, Dmitry Medvedev visited the Crimea, where he talked with local seniors. Then the government abolished the indexation of pensioners of Russia, local residents tried to ask the Prime Minister when it happens, what Medvedev said: “the indexation of nowhere, just no money right now. Find the money, will do the indexing. You stay here, you all the best, good mood and health.” The phrase the Prime Minister has become a national meme, and the premiere of her regular recall in the discussion of related issues.
