A resident of the Netherlands auctioned the painting of the famous wizard, which he bought for a pittance at the store used items. This writes UPI.
Hank Laermans (Henk Laarmans) to pay for rural landscape 75 euros (5.7 thousand). He suspected that the old pattern with the monogram “A” in the lower right corner and patches on the reverse side may be more valuable, and showed it to the expert of the TV program Tussen Kunst and Kitsch. Specialist found out that the painting was painted by Johannes Aarts (Johannes Josephus Aarts) — Dutch artist of the early twentieth century.
At the auction the price increased 400 times and exceeded 30 million euros (about 2.3 million). The last bet made a major collector from the Netherlands, who wished to remain anonymous. The host of the auction compared the canvas with the works of van Gogh and Mondrian.
In February it was reported that the old porcelain teapot with a lost lid and a crack on the handle, bought for 15 British pounds, was a product of the XVII century, released on the first porcelain factory in America. Two years later, the discovery was sold for 575 thousand pounds.
