For the bill No. 0206, which was introduced in Parliament in the status of emergency by President Petro Poroshenko, 277 deputies voted for the required 226.
In the adopted by the Parliament, the document States that the Treaty on friendship, cooperation and partnership will be terminated on 1 April 2019.
In September Poroshenko has signed a decree that approved the decision of the Council of national security and defense of the country on the termination of the contract. In the same month, the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine sent Moscow a notice of non-renewal of the contract.
The Treaty on friendship, cooperation and partnership between Russia and Ukraine was signed in may 1997 and entered into force on 1 April 1999. At the end of 2008 due to the fact that neither Moscow nor Kiev has not declared the desire to withdraw from the agreement, the document was automatically extended for another 10 years — until 1 April 2019.
