The fifth generation fighter F-35 Lightning II moved to the phase of the initial operational evaluation tests, reports FlightGlobal.
In August 2019, all three variants of the aircraft must be tested under conditions of actual hostilities. The results of the tests will be summarized in September. A decision on full serial production of the fighter at the end of 2019.
In June were shipped three hundred serial fighter F-35 Lightning II. The next three hundred fighters to roll off the production line before the end of 2020. Only in 2017 produced 66 aircraft in 2018 it is planned to produce 91. In 2023 it is planned to produce 160 fighters per year.
The family of F-35 Lightning II is developed and produced since 2001 by the American company Lockheed Martin. The fighter is available in three versions: A (for air force), B (short takeoff and vertical landing) and C (deck).
In the framework of the JSF (Joint Strike Fighter), suggesting the replacement of the fourth-generation fighters of the US and its allies on the F-35 Lightning II, the development, manufacture and maintenance of about four thousand aircraft and the required infrastructure is planned to spend up to $ 1.5 trillion.
F-35 Lightning II should be the main fighter of the first half of the XXI century, at least twelve countries — USA, UK, Australia, Turkey, Italy, Canada, Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, Israel, Japan and South Korea.
