Erdogan stood up for Ukrainian sailors

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has asked Moscow to release Ukrainian sailors arrested because of the situation in the Kerch Strait. He reported about it to journalists, transfers RIA Novosti on Friday, December 7.

According to Erdogan, after the incident he spoke with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko by telephone and on the summit of “Big twenty” (G20) in Argentina. “Request for release of seamen I gave to Putin. Will look at developments, I hope they will positively meet”, — he said.

The head of state added that in such cases, third countries can only ask. “Do not go”, — he said.

Earlier, the Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov said that those arrested after the incident in the Kerch Strait, will remain in custody until his trial.

The incident in the Kerch Strait took place on 25 November. Border Department of the FSB detained three Ukrainian military ship after they crossed the Russian border and has not responded to the requirement to stop. The Department argued that the ships entered the waters, which before accession of Crimea to Russia was the Russian. 24 sailors were sent under custody for two months.

In response, Ukraine imposed temporary martial law in several regions, and the President of the United States Donald trump has canceled a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin at the summit of “Big twenty”.
