The signing of a peace Treaty between Japan and Russia will be beneficial to Washington, who signed a security agreement with Tokyo. About it on air of TV channel NHK said Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
According to him, the Russian-Japanese agreement will have a positive impact on regional stability.
Abe noted that the territorial issue cannot be resolved while living on the four Islands the Russians do not agree with the transition part of the Kuril Islands to Japan. The Prime Minister said that the approach of the Japanese side implied understanding on the issue of the two peoples.
Shinzo Abe also recalled the talks of the foreign Ministers of Japan and Russia Taro Kono, foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, which will be held on January 14. After that, said Prime Minister, he will meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Earlier on 5 January, Shinzo Abe said that the coming year is 2019 culminating in the negotiation of a peace Treaty between Japan and Russia.
The previous meeting between Putin and Abe took place in November at the ASEAN summit in Singapore. Following the meeting, the Russian leader confirmed that the Japanese side is ready for dialogue on a peace Treaty, which Moscow and Tokyo can’t come for more than 70 years. The main obstacle to his signing is the unresolved territorial dispute over the southern Kuril Islands — Iturup, Kunashir, Shikotan and Habomai archipelago.
