The President of Russia Vladimir Putin congratulated the Russians on Christmas and noted the important role of the Church in the public life of the country. Congratulation published on the official Kremlin website.
The head of state noted that the holiday not only gives hope and joy, but also brings people together around eternal moral values, “traditions of mercy and charity.”
He also called for appreciation of and respect for the fruitful work of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) and other Christian faiths “to address the pressing social problems of harmonization of interethnic and inter-religious dialogue”.
According to the President, they “play an important, positive role in the life of our country, care about social harmony and strengthening the institution of family, education of youth”.
Christmas night Putin held in the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral in St. Petersburg. Upon completion of the service he gave to the rector of the Cathedral of the icon “Lord Almighty”. In addition, the President visited the children’s hospice in the Nevsky district of the city and gave the children sweets.
