Honorary Patriarch of the DNC, Filarete: RIA Novosti
The Orthodox Church of Ukraine (PCU), recently received autocephaly, sooner or later will become an independent Patriarchate. This was stated by the former head of the non-canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP), now Emeritus Patriarch Filaret ptsu, TV channel NewsOne.
“We expect the Patriarchy because we are a large Church. We hope that the Ukrainian Church recognizes the Ecumenical Patriarch and Patriarchate. This is the future, but it will be,” he said.
The Hierarch stressed that the Ukrainian Church is still willing to be a metropolis, though 25 years was a Patriarchy (from the point of view of the non-canonical structures — approx. “Of the tape.ru”). He also expressed the opinion that after receiving Thomas, most of the Orthodox churches, including Russian Orthodox Church (ROC), will enter into Eucharistic communion with the DNC, “because there is no other way”.
Constantinople (Ecumenical) Patriarch Bartholomew signed the Tomos of autocephaly of the PCU 5 Jan. The ceremony of handing the document to the head of the Church structure to the Epiphany held the next day.
The decision to establish a new religious structure in Ukraine was made on 15 December during the unification of the Cathedral, initiated by Patriarch Bartholomew and the President of the country Petro Poroshenko.
In ptsu included representatives of mainly non-canonical structures of the UOC-KP and the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC). On 11 October, the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate lifted the anathema from their heads, after which the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) broke Eucharistic communion with Constantinople refuses to acknowledge as the outcome of the unification Church and the validity of the Tomos. That is also the position of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP): the Cathedral was attended by only two of its hierarchy.
