World Bank President resigns

The world Bank group President Jim Yong Kim retires. He will finish the work on 1 February. It is reported RIA Novosti with reference to the press release of the Bank. The duties of the head of the organization will be fulfilled by the Executive Director Kristalina Georgieva.

Kim took the decision to resign before the expiration of his term in 2022. The official reason was the desire of the banker to return to work in the private sector. “Kim announced that immediately after his resignation, will join the [private] firm, and will work to improve infrastructure investment in developing countries”, — the document says. What the firm in question is not specified.

Jim Yong Kim assumed office on 1 July 2012, after the end of the term of office of the former head of the organization Robert Zoellick. Five years later, Kim was nominated for a new term.

Jim Yong Kim was born in Seoul in 1959, his family emigrated to the United States five years later. In 1987, Kim became one of the co-founders of the charity organization Partners in health (Partners In Health) dealing with issues of providing health care to the poor.
