The Tomos of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine (PCU) are really lucky in Istanbul to add the missing signatures. This was stated on air of TV channel “Direct” the official representative of a religious organization, the priest Ivan, Sidor. Recording broadcast is available on YouTube.

“Tomos, who gave us — it is valid, it has the signature of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, but on procedure there must be signatures of the bishops of the Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople. The fact that there are no multiple signatures, is the technical aspects,” explained Sidor.

According to him, the Holy Synod of the tradition of going to the 9 of every month, and the document was already transferred to Ukraine on 6 January, the day after the signing of the Ecumenical Patriarch, therefore, not all the bishops signed it. Why the transfer occurred before all the formalities, he said.

It is planned that the Tomos and its copy is intended for storage of the Constantinople Patriarchate, signed on 9 January, after which the document will return to Kiev. Probably it will be put on public display in the refectory Church of St. Sophia.

That Tomos will have to return to Istanbul, was announced by the representative of the Ministry of culture of Ukraine on the Christmas Liturgy on January 7.

The next day the Ministry of culture denied his words, but later spread information that the document was taken away by security officers yesterday evening and drove away in an unknown direction. In the Church of St. Sophia, where he was exhibited, said that the relic was not formally assigned to the Church, and they she did not answer.

PCU, which included mostly representatives of the non-canonical Church structures, was established on 15 December 2018 at the unity Cathedral in Kyiv, initiated by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. Russian Orthodox Church, and with it the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate does not recognize the decree of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on the removal of the anathema with their heads and all further decisions on Ukraine.
