Russia is an open confrontation with Western States that directly affect the security of Norway and the allied countries. Bakke-Jensen added that the consequences of a collision can be very serious for the far North. He also recalled the many failures of GPS systems during a NATO exercise, which allegedly involved the Russian military.
12 November 2018, Prime Minister of Finland, Juha Sipilä said that the GPS system was broken on purpose, and suggested that Russia may have a bearing on this crash. “GPS is quite easy to disable, it is possible that Russia is behind this. (…) This message to all countries participating in military exercises,” said Sipilä.
Later, the press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov complained about the tendency “to blame Russia in all mortal sins and other”. He stressed that the Kremlin is unaware of when the Russian military failure in Norway.
