Coal mine in Poland was not able to cover domestic demand, so the Polish energy companies have to use Russian raw materials. Writes about this edition of the DGP.

According to the newspaper, Russian coal is used not only in power, but even in the electricity sector. So, the import of coal to Poland in 2018 amounted to 18-19 million tons, of which 70 percent came from Russia. According to the publication, in 2019, the volume of imports may exceed 20 million tons.

It is noted that Polish coal companies can not increase production enough to satisfy the demands of domestic consumers, despite the investment.

According to the expert Peter Macentee, at the moment Poland is doomed for Russian coal, block, import will not work due to a good balance of quality and price. “I see only one way out — if the Americans want to increase the supply of coal and gas,” he said.

Poland has repeatedly expressed the desire to reduce dependence on Russian fuel. In particular, in mid-October last year signed a 20-year contract to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) with the U.S. Venture Global LNG, and in November — with Cheniere.
