The delegation from North Korea in the fall of 2018, have held secret talks in Canada. This was reported by the TV station CBC with reference to sources in the government.
According to them, the delegation of five people arrived in Ottawa from Pyongyang at the end of September. The meeting in total lasted for two days. As noted, the canadian side has used them in order to push the process of nuclear disarmament of the Korean Peninsula and draw attention to problems in the field of human rights.
Who was it who suggested and organized the contacts, not reported. While canadian officials welcomed the personal meetings because “opportunities like this come along every day,” said the source channel.
The source added that issues such as Korean, Canada agree with its closest allies. At the same time indicates that despite these discreet contacts, Ottawa does not change the interaction with Pyongyang.
In 2010, Canada and North Korea broke off diplomatic relations. Restrictions on bilateral contacts were established after the flooding in March of that year ships of the Navy of South Korea “Cheonan” which killed 46 South Korean sailors. The international Commission of experts concluded that the Cheonan was torpedoed by a North Korean submarine.
