High salary expectations and inadequate skills are some of the main causes of youth unemployment, said the Minister of labour and social protection Maxim Topilin in an interview to “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”.
According to him, the main reason is that salary expectations do not always coincide with reality. “Secondly, they [young professionals] don’t always strive for formal employment: some young people prefer to work in the illegal sector,” — said Topilin.
Another reason is the low competence of youth: “skills do not always coincide with the needs of employers”.
All this, according to the Minister, outweighs the mobility and energy of young employees.
According to the labor Ministry, unemployment in the age category from 20 to 29 years accounting for 34.3 percent among people over 55 years 10.8%.
