Between the leadership of the foreign Ministry of Belarus and the US state Department recently held several telephone conversations. According to the diplomat, the sides discussed various aspects of Belarusian-American relations. “According to the rules of diplomatic ethics detailed the content of these conversations is not disclosed,” he explained.

Earlier it was reported that the Belarusian authorities lifted the restriction on the number of American diplomats who can work in the country. This was the American magazine Foreign Policy said a source in the state Department. According to the edition, such decision was made during a telephone conversation between Minister of foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makei and U.S. assistant Secretary of state for European and Eurasian Wesson Mitchell.

The authors of the material said that it may lead to an improvement in relations between the States. “This is a big step. This is the beginning of the thaw,” — said the source magazine.

On 10 January President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that Russia may lose the only ally in the Western direction in the face of Belarus, if the parties fail to reach agreement on compensation in connection with the tax maneuver in the oil sector.
